Hagan Gets Fit
The Dutchess County Department of Health recently lauded Hagan School as a Success Story for its participation in the Fit Kids Program. The program’s goal is to encourage schools to promote healthy lifestyle choices among students. It is funded by the New York State Department of Health’s Healthy Heart Program. As the first school in Dutchess County to sign up for the program in 2005, Hagan has consistently offered a number of initiatives to promote healthy eating and physical activity, including People as Exercise Partners, Bike Rodeo, Great Halloween Candy Exchange, and Healthy Snack Day. In the 2010-11 school year, students will be able to sample a new fruit or vegetable monthly. As the Department of Health notes, “School administrators and staff have put health and wellness at the forefront of school initiatives, thus promoting a more healthy school environment.”
